Christmas Eve Fatal

At around 6:30 on Christmas Eve companies 5,1,and 9 were dispatched to Ridley Ave in Sharon Hill for the working building fire with entrapment.  Tele-squirt 01 arrived with fire showing from the second floor with confirmed entrapment, the proceeded to go inservice with a 1 3/4". 09-2 arrived shortly after and took a second line and began a search, conditions deteriortated quickly and upon the arrival of Tower 5 we were ordered to place the main inservice and go into master stream operations. Crew fought hard but unfortunetly the vitcim was not located in time. First Due Fire In Norwood

Station 5 was dispatched for the working fire on the 200 Blk of Chester Pk. Tower 5 arrived with smoke showing from a 3 story twin T-5 went in service with an 1 3/4 to the 3rd floor, crews from 02 (Norwood) and 43(Holmes) went in to the exposure and found fire on the 3rd floor. Crews from Glenolden, Norwood, Prospect Park, Holmes, Sharon Hill, and Tincum responded and operated, the fire was placed under control within the 1hr mark.


 
   
   
Second Alarm in Collingdale

Tower 5 was called into Collingdale on the second alarm box assignment on Wayne Ave. Crews were battling a 2 1/2 story M.O.R. with extension on to the exposures, Tower 5's crew went in service to the roof to provide ventilation for the interior crews.

Back to back working fires in folcroft

Just after midnight crews responded to Folcroft for the working fire on Delview Dr; Tower 5's crew assisted with search while Engine 5 took the roof and overhaul. While crews were mopping up from the first fire we were dispatched to Taylor Dr for another working fire, 05-8 was the first piece on location followed by 09-3 with a car below the back deck fully involved, crews made a stop before the fire broke into the structure. Both fires are currently under investigation.


 
   
   
PA State Firemans Convention

Tower 5 entered for compition this past weekend at the 2012 PA Firemans convention, even though we didn't place we had a great time.  We would like to congratulate the Yardley-Makfield and Reliance fire companies for taking 1st and 2nd in our category.  Also a big congrats goes out to Sharon Hill Fire Company for taking 1st for 09-3, the Ladies auxilary, the band, and the marching category.  We hope to see everyone again next year in West Chester.


 
   
   
Congratulations to Lt. Tommy August & Family on the birth of their baby boy

Congratulations goes out to Lt. Tommy August and his wife Jen on the birth of their first child. They gave birth to a healthy baby boy this past Monday 9/24/12, Vincenzo James August. We wish the best of luck to both of you and know you are going to be great parents.


 
   
   
Convention!!!!!

As all of you well know PA State Firemen's Convention is right around the corner. As a company we have decided to enter the Tower for competition, this means we need serious help getting it in "Parade Condition." We have dedicated a few days to work as a company on this project, but any help you can offer outside of the listed dates is greatly appreciated.

Crew Days as Follows:

Saturday September 15th- 10AM

Tuesday September 18th- 6PM

Tuesday September 25th- 6PM

There are a lot of projects to get done before we can really make a run at this, for a list of tasks to be completed or questions contact:

Acquired Structure Drill

Members spent this past drill practicing Search & Rescue and VES tactics on an acquired structure in Prospect Park.  Crews learned proper Search techniques as well as refreshed their skills on Vent, Enter, Seach techniques. The structure was donated by Finish Line Auto Body for the Company's use.  Crews trained with members of the Folcroft (01) and Prospect Park (08) Fire Comapnies. Crews will be drilling on this structure for the next month or so.


 
   
   
Rope Rescue Class

Members of the Glenolden and Norwood (02) Fire Companies attended a Basic Rigging for Rope Rescue Class this past week. Members were taught the foundations of setting up, deploying, and operating a rope rescue system. They also learned proper packaging of a patient in a stokes basket.  The class was run through the DELCO ESTC. A big thanks goes out to instructors Calamia and Dawson for a great class.


 
   
   
Accident with Subject Trapped
Companies were dispatched to the 400 block of Andrews Ave for an overturned vehicle with one subject trapped inside. Crews from from 05, 43 and 01 worked seamlessly together to stabilize the vehicle, provide fire protection and remove 2 side doors and the B post. Patient was extricated shortly after the first 10 minute mark and transported to CCMC my 02-7B and medic 100-D

Working Fire 29 North Scott Ave.
Saturday, May 1, 2010

Companies were dispatched for a working building fire on the morning of Saturday May 1st 05-9 was in command and Crews went in svc with an aggressive interior attack with numerous handlines. Fire was travelling void spaces and the pipe chase. Crews stayed with the interior attack opening up to get to the fire that was in the walls. A second alarm was called for manpower. Fire was also running the roof line through the soffett. Truck companies opened the roof in several spots. With an aggressive interior attack and several handlines in svc the crews were able to bring the fire under control without further spread from the rear to the front of the bldg.
